The first Cadet Attachment Program (CAP) in Academy history began on March 4, 1996. The program provided the Class of 1996 with a chance to see firsthand and get a taste of what it's like to work in the industry. Cadets were assigned to particular police, fire, or jail units and were grouped according to their bureaus. They watched passively as operations were carried out. The training helped the cadets understand how their particular bureaus were actually run and administered. Additionally, it broadened their perspectives on how their bureaus may contribute to both public safety and charitable work.
